The Knightley Collection



This collection of 313 charters was deposited with Northamptonshire Record Society in 1928 by Charles Knightley, along with the rest of the family's collection. The charters were originally catalogued in 1893 by I.H. Jeyes, senior assistant in the department of manuscripts at the British Museum.  It has been transcribed recently by the Northamptonshire County Archives.

Letters patent of King Henry VIII whereby he grants to Edmund Knightley, Sergeant-at-law, the dissolved monastery or priory of Studley, County of Warwick, with the manor of the same place, and lands in Ippesley, Co Warwick, the said Priory and manor being of the clear annual value of £49. 2sh. 2d. To hold military service, viz. the tenth part of a Knight's fee, and an annual rent of £8. 11sh. 2d. He also grants, at request of the said Edmund, an annual rent charge of £15 on the manor of Fawsley (which Joan Knightley, widow of Richard Knightley, now holds) to Ursula, wife of the said Edmund: and at the same time confirms the manor to the said Joan, with reversion to Edmund Knightley, Valentine Knightley, Joan Knottysfurde, Susan Knightley, Anne Knightley, Mary Knightley, and Frances Knightley, daughters and heirs of the late Richard Knightley, son and heir of Sir Richard Knightley, Knight.
